Coffee-chocolate tour

With a couple of days left on the trip, the mornings get longer and the activities more relaxed. Another decent treadmill run listening to Adam Grant’s podcast followed by an ocean front breakfast and a slippery walk down the Monkey trail in flip flops (bad idea by the way)🩴 with Anu. The kids enjoyed a round of mini golf with Chinmay.

We were booked with Terra tours for the chocolate/coffee tour. Our guide, Bryan sounded very passionate about the cacao plantations while explaining the process of pollination, cacao fruit harvest, separating the cacao beans, fermentation, drying, dehuskng etc. We were informed beforehand that this was the tour where we would get to sample a lot of goodies. The tart meat around the seeds tasted delicious and the anti oxidant rich cacao nibs smelled divine, chocolate in its purest rawest and most natural form.

Drink of the Gods lived up to its name- cacao nibs crushed with a bit of brown sugar and mixed with cnammon, chili, drop of honey and hot water- no wonder people had 50 of these per day back in the days. Sampling spoonful of melted dark chocolate that Bryan’s sister Grace poured for us as we all queued up while Bryan topped it with his favorite flavors like lemon concentrate, cacao nibs, sea salt, ginger was a fun and the most delicious game of the entire trip. We enjoyed chatting with Padma  and her 2 daughters, one of who was in Limon for a year as part of a fellowship. The Tamluan tro was having a good grls time together. The sugarcane juice machine was a 200 year old massive equipment made in Oho. Bryan admitted to borrowing this drink from Nda and making it part of their culture.

Another aimless stroll in the town of Quepos to look for souvenirs ended up being a helado break before taking the cab to the hotel for more pool time with another refreshing fresh fruit cocktail. Parishi and Reeva were set with their kids red sauce pasta and the kids’ movie 🍿 pizza night at the hotel was a perfect opportunity to enjoy an amazing nduan dinner at Lttle nods so far away from home. The Tulsi paneer tikka came sizzling hot on a hot plate and the juicy tender paneer pieces with grilled onions and bell peppers exploded with aromatic flavors.
